Sunny St John

Tuesday, November 8th, 2011

As the winter chill begins to approach Charleston we can’t help but be reminded (and let’s be honest- slightly envious) of Angela & Rob’s St John wedding.  Lucky for Ellen she’s off to the Cayman Islands for Engage!11 next week but for now the rest of us will just have to swoon over this Caribbean wedding…

Brooke and Chris

Saturday, December 18th, 2010

Halloween. Now I know that this is a favorite holiday for many… not for this girl. Well, that is until Brooke and Chris’ Cassique wedding over Halloween weekend this year! The colors, the charm, the fun… all made me fall in love with the festivities and the spooky cheer.

Brooke and Chris hosted their wedding and reception at the always beautiful Cassique on Kiawah Island and WOW, what a gorgeous night it was! Brooke is a fabulous art curator and her effortless style was seen throughout the night from her Carolina Herrera gown with bold accessories and retro hair to the lovely letterpress printing by The Lettered Olive to the custom lantern lighting by TEC.  With plums and pumpkin orange as tones for the florals by SYG Designs and a rustic chic vibe in the reception tent and with Papa Sol keeping the dance floor full all night, I’d most certainly say that the party was as unique as it was fun.

The next morning (Halloween morning) was perhaps one of my FAVORITE events of the entire year and darn it if we couldn’t manage to get any photos to share with you! But it was a COSTUME brunch on the lawn of The Sanctuary and oh, my goodness it was hysterical! The mother-of-the-groom wore a gorilla suit, the bride and groom were Paul Bunyan and the Ox… everyone donned their finest Halloween garb and it was most certainly a brunch to go in the memory books for WED.

So no photos from that, but take a look at the beautiful bride and her gorgeous wedding, compliments of a Charleston uber-talent, Marni Rothschild Durlach (make sure to check out her blog with more photos here):

Congrats, Brooke and Chris!

A WED baby shower

Tuesday, September 28th, 2010

Oh, my goodness, how absolutely honored I was to have this beautiful, chic baby shower thrown for… me!

The WED team invited a few close friends in the wedding business and gussied up the upper room at Cru Cafe with gorgeous blooms by our favorite Sara Grimshaw to serve an absolutely delightful lunch (of course the menu designed by our favorites at Studio R Design) to celebrate my sweet little baby-to-be. He’s coming soon (in two months!) and I could not be any more thankful for WED and our amazing team, our sweet brides and clients and all of our vendors for your encouragement and friendship as this new phase of life begins…

And a special thank you to another favorite, uber-talent Marni Rothschild Durlach for both attending and taking these sweet photos!

Tara and Jesse

Friday, August 27th, 2010

There are funny people and then there is Donna Von Bruening. We LOVE working with Donna because she is always making our staff, our clients, and all of our vendors laugh all night long.

And Tara and Jesse’s laid lack and fun personalities were perfect for Donna and also for the whimsical teal and yellow art deco-inspired wedding. WED brought in TEC, Studio R, Snyder, and Jim Smeal to the Harbour Club to transform the space with some mid-century style. I especially LOVED the ostrich feathers!!

Congrats, Tara and Jesse!

WED wedding is on The Wedding Row!

Tuesday, August 10th, 2010

Hooray! Our wedding that was most recently published in The Knot Magazine was just showcased on The Wedding Row… on of Charleston’s hippest wedding blogs.

Thanks so much to Della and please check out the details here!

WED in The Knot!

Monday, August 2nd, 2010

Hooray! It’s always nice to come back home from vacation to good news… and great news this is!

Congrats to Marni Rothschild Durlach and all of the vendors who worked on Kirsten and Paul’s wedding this past October. It was just featured in The Knot’s national magazine and we couldn’t be more thrilled.

Check out the story here and make sure to pick up a copy on newsstands!

When the weather is this cold…

…All I can think about is SPRING!!

And this wedding just epitomizes all that I love about that time of year: blooming dogwoods, forsythia, daffodils, and lady’s tears… in bright shades of green and yellow!

Palmetto Bluff Soiree

Sunday, January 31st, 2010

Thank you SO MUCH to the wonderful Tamara Lackey for these photos from our summer ’09 Palmetto Bluff wedding… what was not lovely about this summertime soiree??

We loved sticking to tradition, and the neutral tones just brought out the natural beauty of the land and ballroom…

Kirsten and Paul

Tuesday, October 27th, 2009

Kirsten and Paul have been working with WED for well over a year to fine-tune all of the thoughtful details for their October 24th, 2009 wedding at Lowndes Grove Plantation. They were SUCH A FUN COUPLE who were always ready for a good time. Kirsten was a SC transplant for several years and is now back up in Philadelphia, but she knew she wanted to show off Charleston to her friends and family. They wanted their wedding weekend to be full of relaxing activities, dynamic food, unexpected surprises, and a good ‘ole Southern time.

The real kicker for us was that due to an event on Friday at Lowndes Grove, WED had less than twelve hours to make over a year’s worth of planning come together before the 4:00pm ceremony!! Each vendor dutifully came out at 5:00am and completely made it happen.

Let’s take a walk through the creative process of this wedding with these photos from the uber-talented Marni Rothschild Durlach

We used lots of Snyder and Snyder Lounge’s new pieces… including a fabulous wooden bar, new natural wood bookcases and green rocks glasses. We order crystal globe pendants that were installed by PDA and Blossom‘s did a custom-draping and drumshade job.

I really can’t say enough good things about Sara Grimshaw and her team from Dahlia Designs. Their flowers always exceed even OUR high expectations! I love how the huge sprays of yellow-orange orchids almost frame each guest in photos, including the lovely bride and groom here:

A close up of the lovely flowers and the napkins, created from the same fabric as was used in the draping border…

Their menu was positively mouth-watering. Who wouldn’t love to sit down to this menu??:

Course One:

Traditional Hushpuppy Amuse with Spicy Cajun Remoulade

Course Two:

She Crab Soup with Red Pepper Oil and Beet Micro Greens

Course Three:

Shrimp and Smoked Gouda Grits Cake with Chorizo Gravy and Truffled Frisee Salad

Course Four:

Braised Short Ribs served on a Bed of Spicy Collard Greens with Local Red Rice

Course Five:

Sweet Confections from Sugar Bakeshop

Looks like everyone had a great time, no?

Sugar Bakeshop really outdid themselves on this delightful miniature dessert display, its design a-la-amy atlas!

And finally, for the hours of dancing to local band Plane Jane- flip flops for their guests. These really are a completely cute AND practical wedding detail- these were snatched up in a hot minute once Plane Jane started kicking it up!

Ahh… another wonderful couple, another beautiful wedding. Thank you to everyone for helping us pull all of our planning together on Saturday!

And Kirsten and Paul, we wish you the best. WED is honored to have been a part of your big day!

"I'm Tar Heel Born, I'm Tar Heel Bred"

Wednesday, September 2nd, 2009

Though I certainly consider Charleston my home now, many may not know that I am a born and bred Tar Heel, raised my whole life in the lovely North Carolina!

With my entire family (when I say “entire family” I mean my parents, brothers, sister, and sisters-in-law!) all UNC-Chapel Hill alums, it has only made sense that I seek out weddings in the Chapel Hill-Raleigh-Durham area. WED loves to head up to NC for weddings and events!

This wedding in particular was a fun one for me to plan… it was my baby brother’s wedding, after all!

David and Christine met and fell in love at UNC and so it was fitting to host friends and family to come back to their alma mater for their weekend celebration. The rehearsal dinner was held in the gorgeous Morehead Planetariumon UNC’s campus, and the ceremony on Saturday evening at Chapel Hill Bible Church:

The reception venue- The Angus Barn Pavilion-  was absolutely stunning and was fabulously accommodating to us in every way… and the views of the lake were stunning!

We used an enormously talented photographer from the Raleigh area- Bill Broere. He was an absolute pleasure to work with and, as you can see, was able to capture stunning photos throughout the evening. **NOTE- he travels to shoot weddings!!

Being that we were in a barn, we kept the decor rustic but clean… white blooms in tin containers and candlelight everywhere!

We incorporated blue lighting on the uncovered patio… we needed at least a little Carolina blue in the mix!

And inside, we lit the barn in amber tones to offer warmth and soft ambiance…

The fire pit was a huge hit, even on the August night! S’mores supplies were brought out when the sun went down and everyone gathered around for a DIY dessert…

I can’t believe my little brother is married… David and Christine, I love you both and it was such an honor to plan your wedding!
