Stacey was one of those brides who our whole office was excited to see when she came in town for appointments. She’s hip, smart as a whip , stylish and absolutely hysterical. She had a fun modern style and was excited to let us take her vision and run with us trusting us every step of the way.

Stacey and Jesse were married at the beautiful Charlestowne Landing and they really utilized the space to the max. Their ceremony was under the Avenue of Oaks, the cocktail hour outside of the historic Legare-Waring House and the reception at Founders Hall, the new (gorgeous!) modern venue on site (and perfect to accommodate guests inside in case of inclement weather).

Marni Rothschild Durlach was there to capture all of the sweet moments and modern details. We LOVE Marni and adore her true journalistic style in which she photographs weddings for our clients. See more photos on her blog here, and enjoy these as well!

Brooke and Chris hosted their wedding and reception at the always beautiful Cassique on Kiawah Island and WOW, what a gorgeous night it was! Brooke is a fabulous art curator and her effortless style was seen throughout the night from her Carolina Herrera gown with bold accessories and retro hair to the lovely letterpress printing by The Lettered Olive to the custom lantern lighting by TEC.  With plums and pumpkin orange as tones for the florals by SYG Designs and a rustic chic vibe in the reception tent and with Papa Sol keeping the dance floor full all night, I’d most certainly say that the party was as unique as it was fun.

The next morning (Halloween morning) was perhaps one of my FAVORITE events of the entire year and darn it if we couldn’t manage to get any photos to share with you! But it was a COSTUME brunch on the lawn of The Sanctuary and oh, my goodness it was hysterical! The mother-of-the-groom wore a gorilla suit, the bride and groom were Paul Bunyan and the Ox… everyone donned their finest Halloween garb and it was most certainly a brunch to go in the memory books for WED.

Alli Hobbs to Mark Peavy

 

“Considering the state of the economy,” says New York gal Alli Hobbs, “issue number one on most brides’ minds is saving money while maintaining beauty and not sacrificing too much.” Counting herself in that camp, she and her fiancé opted for a small, smart wedding that stretched their dollars. They chose a morning ceremony and brunch reception (less pricey than dinner) with Bloody Marys and mimosas (less expensive than an open bar). And since Alli had a clear wedding day vision, she just needed a top-notch event coordinator to polish it off and pull it together. W.E.D.’s Ellen Robinson     typically tackles six-figure affairs but was happy to work with Ali and Mark since the well-thought out (and early) event didn’t call for much manpower. The result? A stunner of a fall fête.

Cost-Saving Tips

The Location
Alli and Matt booked the Confederate Home, where they hosted a garden ceremony and sit-down brunch on the same property for one rate.

The Attire
The Bride: Alli got a past-season Vera Wang gown at a sample sale, which costs less than a current release.

The Bridal Party: The couple opted for only a matron of honor and best man, who were able to select (with guidance) their own attire.

The Ushers: Male ushers wore their own suits and the couple gifted them ties, which brought the color scheme together.

The details
Décor: Elegant but simple ribbon streamers in purple and green gave a lot of bang for the couple’s buck.

Stationery: A designer pal made the invites, and Alli created programs herself with a color printer, kraft paper, and ribbon.

The Photographer: Setting a strict shooting time limit and opting for an online album (rather than an actual one) to trim photo costs.

But when you frame it with a ring of orchids, it becomes the stunning centerpiece of the wedding (The best part: the chandelier originally was developed to hide the brass chandeliers that did not coordinate with her theme).

There’s something about live flowers, huh?

“Budget.” No bride likes to hear it. But truly having a budget under which to operate and being organized within it can be the BEST thing for a beautiful wedding that doesn’t leave you feeling like your pockets have been emptied. And no matter what it is, we all have a “budget” we must stick within… the question becomes HOW to spend within that budget.

As planners we look for the VALUE of every product we buy and service we obtain. Is it worth the money… does it fulfill the need… to us “budget” does not mean the wedding has to look anything less than exactly what our brides envision. It just means we have to be very creative and efficient in getting there!!

Take our Osprey Point wedding on Kiawah Island. Her budget priorities were the location (Kiawah Island), her band and her food. She was willing to spend a large portion of her budget on these things because she knew that’s what would matter most to her guests.

But what bride doesn’t want her wedding to look fabulous, too?! Here are a few ways we managed to create chic decor without breaking the bank…

1.) We used a standard lamour linen but in a a rich copper tone. A great colored linen in any fabric can make a HUGE difference!

2.) Multiple budvases were filled with single blooms and spread down the table. Less flowers= money saved.

3.) Interesting Glassware– to fill in the space, our florist purchased inexpensive glassware from CB2 for the budvases and candlesticks. The various shapes added MUCH visual interest to the tables!

4.) Candlelight played a major role in “richening” up the space– on the square tables, glass budvases with single blooms surrounded a series of pillar candles in hurricane shades.

5.) Spend money on “impact pieces”– by putting more money into several large pieces, you’ll get the “wow” factor without having to overdo it everywhere…

By saving money in on the seated tables, she was able to have the very dramatic placecard table she wanted… it was a gorgeous way to greet their guests!

At the end of the day, Michelle and Earl were a fantastic couple with lovely families… the wedding was perfect!

The October wedding was painted purple– with accents of orange to add an autumnal touch. Moss natural elements like bittersweet vine and birds nest added a bit of whimsy for this free-spirited and laid back bride.

The torrential rain on Friday cleared up just in time for their 10:30 a.m. ceremony- whew! Streamers of satin ribbon and strands of green dendrobium orchids framed the couple as they bacame husband and wife.

The cupcake “cake” was a huge hit– who knew so many cupcakes could get eated by 60 people at 11:00 am?!

Each detail seemed to fall right into place… the decor was just so pretty in its simplicity. Congrats to Alli and Mark!
