Halloween. Now I know that this is a favorite holiday for many… not for this girl. Well, that is until Brooke and Chris’ Cassique wedding over Halloween weekend this year! The colors, the charm, the fun… all made me fall in love with the festivities and the spooky cheer.
Brooke and Chris hosted their wedding and reception at the always beautiful Cassique on Kiawah Island and WOW, what a gorgeous night it was! Brooke is a fabulous art curator and her effortless style was seen throughout the night from her Carolina Herrera gown with bold accessories and retro hair to the lovely letterpress printing by The Lettered Olive to the custom lantern lighting by TEC. With plums and pumpkin orange as tones for the florals by SYG Designs and a rustic chic vibe in the reception tent and with Papa Sol keeping the dance floor full all night, I’d most certainly say that the party was as unique as it was fun.
The next morning (Halloween morning) was perhaps one of my FAVORITE events of the entire year and darn it if we couldn’t manage to get any photos to share with you! But it was a COSTUME brunch on the lawn of The Sanctuary and oh, my goodness it was hysterical! The mother-of-the-groom wore a gorilla suit, the bride and groom were Paul Bunyan and the Ox… everyone donned their finest Halloween garb and it was most certainly a brunch to go in the memory books for WED.
So no photos from that, but take a look at the beautiful bride and her gorgeous wedding, compliments of a Charleston uber-talent, Marni Rothschild Durlach (make sure to check out her blog with more photos here):

Congrats, Brooke and Chris!

Whoohoo, how gratifying to see photos of a wedding so quickly after the event… especially the wedding of Whitney and Daniel at The William Aiken House.
Marni took the photos for us and she just always blows us away with both the photos that capture all the candid emotion of the people and also all the beautiful details of the setting… thanks for passing these along, Marni!
And head on over to The Wedding Row to read about all the fun details… I always love her collages from the blog and they really bring the details to life.
Here’s a peak of the lovely October affair…

Congrats, Whitney and Daniel!

Whoohoo, what a fun flashback for us to see Marianne and Emre’s wedding on Charleston Wedding Magazine’s blog featured as this week’s “Flashback Wedding.”
Marianne and Emre’s wedding was quite simply gorgeous. Marianne was ahead of the gold and metallics trend and I have not seen The Rivercourse on Kiawah look as beautiful as it did that night.
Be sure to check out the blog here!

There are funny people and then there is Donna Von Bruening. We LOVE working with Donna because she is always making our staff, our clients, and all of our vendors laugh all night long.
And Tara and Jesse’s laid lack and fun personalities were perfect for Donna and also for the whimsical teal and yellow art deco-inspired wedding. WED brought in TEC, Studio R, Snyder, and Jim Smeal to the Harbour Club to transform the space with some mid-century style. I especially LOVED the ostrich feathers!!

Congrats, Tara and Jesse!

Wow. Wow, wow, wow. When I opened up this file of photos taken by the wonderful Alison Mayfield of Christian Oth Studio I could not stop saying, “Wow.”
Rebecca and Robby’s wedding was just one of my favorites and NOT just because we worked on one of the most beautiful places in the entire world with some of my favorite vendors like The Sanctuary, Dahlia Designs, Wedding Cakes By Jim Smeal, TEC, Studio R and Snyder.
What really made it incredible for our whole staff was the graciousness and loveliness of the bride and groom, Rebecca and Robby. They are hip professionals living now in North Carolina who were just a true pleasure to work with every single day. I loved to talk with Rebecca about her wedding vision and loved that she trusted us to carry that through for her. Her style was timeless and elegant but with a good dose of fun thrown in there, too. What a great weekend it was on Kiawah… take a peek for yourself:

The stunning bride…

The groom “getting ready” for the wedding…

Both SO excited to see each other!

…A beautiful spot we found on the way out to Kiawah!

This little lady who was hanging out on The Sanctuary lawn was mesmerized by the bride, telling her, “You are soooo beautiful” and “I’m going to be a bride, too.” Precious. I think she would have participated in the rest of the photos if she could have.

Congrats to the new Mr. and Mrs.!!

One word: LIGHTING!
Here are a few shots from a hunting lodge that we transformed into an uber-romantic, pink-infused evening:

(The cake was lit under the linen, casting an ambient glow that could be seen even through the outside windows)

(The bar and cigar bar were uplit in hot pinks, and the trees across the lake were hilighted in blue. We even added a “full moon” to light up the night…)

(The two main interior rooms were all about “sleek” and “pink.” Custom white carpet and pink, pink, P-I-N-K lighting!)

“Scattered Thunderstorms.” That weather forcast for a wedding weekend usually strikes fear in a bride, but not Maggie. Cool as a cucumber, she was just thrilled to be married. Rain or shine.
Her wedding ceremony was held at the gorgeous Old Sheldon Ruins. As the gospel choir walked up to the ruins singing “Blessed Assurance” I felt like we were all truly on sacred ground…
The cute boys!

We knew we had two “comfort” issues we had to combat: the heat and the bugs. This custom-designed program allowed us to inform guests of the ceremony details while also shooing away bugs and offering a cool breeze!

From the Old Sheldon Ruins, guests were led to the BEAUTIFUL Oaks Plantation on St. Helena Island… When guests were greeted with shots of oysters in vodka, each one knew a fun party was about to begin!

Guests were also invited to pick up a packet of praline pecans to snack on throughout the evening or to take home for a midnight snack…

Bright flowers by H.B. Stems were just gorgeous…
We draped the main tent with a grass green and the adjacent lounge, bar, and dance tents in copper. Amaizng how using the bright tones and plenty of lighting kept it summery and fresh!

YUMMY sugared pacans at the bar for that little something sweet we all need after a meal…

What do you think of these new chandeliers? I love the mod-ish vibe they bring to the dance tent!

A few of the night’s details…

LOVE the ambience when the sun went down!

Congrats, Maggie and Cecil! Remember that the more it rains on your wedding day, the better your marriage will be… for y’all, that surely means you have a lifetime of happiness to come!

I always call the hour before sunset “the Golden Hour” at The River Course Club on Kiawah Island because it always seems that the setting sun hits everything with the perfect glow. This fall 2008 bride wanted to bring out that natural gold light in her decor and a fabulous event resulted…

Rattan furniture created comfortable nooks around the porch, perfectly juxtaposed to the lush tent:

Gold tones shone throughout…

What a stunning view (note to golfers- this is on an award-winning course)!

One of the most difficult things we face as wedding designers is helping clients “see” their wedding before it happens! We have to try to show bits and pieces and paint a picture of the potential as, after all, it’s impossible to put all the elements together and show a client exactly what their wedding will look like on the day of. Storyboards like these are fantastic, but can only take the mind so far…
But here’s a great example of what design elements carefully pulled together can do to a space… Ginny wanted the convenience of a downtown Charleston hotel wedding for her guests, but wanted the space to look like a South Beach nightclub… without any mod hotels in downtown we had to really use lighting, furniture, linen, and decor to transform the space!
Here’s the “before” shot of the Carolina Ballroom at the Francis Marion Hotel:
And now what we created for the reception:
