Kirsten and Paul

Tuesday, October 27th, 2009

Kirsten and Paul have been working with WED for well over a year to fine-tune all of the thoughtful details for their October 24th, 2009 wedding at Lowndes Grove Plantation. They were SUCH A FUN COUPLE who were always ready for a good time. Kirsten was a SC transplant for several years and is now back up in Philadelphia, but she knew she wanted to show off Charleston to her friends and family. They wanted their wedding weekend to be full of relaxing activities, dynamic food, unexpected surprises, and a good ‘ole Southern time.

The real kicker for us was that due to an event on Friday at Lowndes Grove, WED had less than twelve hours to make over a year’s worth of planning come together before the 4:00pm ceremony!! Each vendor dutifully came out at 5:00am and completely made it happen.

Let’s take a walk through the creative process of this wedding with these photos from the uber-talented Marni Rothschild Durlach

We used lots of Snyder and Snyder Lounge’s new pieces… including a fabulous wooden bar, new natural wood bookcases and green rocks glasses. We order crystal globe pendants that were installed by PDA and Blossom‘s did a custom-draping and drumshade job.

I really can’t say enough good things about Sara Grimshaw and her team from Dahlia Designs. Their flowers always exceed even OUR high expectations! I love how the huge sprays of yellow-orange orchids almost frame each guest in photos, including the lovely bride and groom here:

A close up of the lovely flowers and the napkins, created from the same fabric as was used in the draping border…

Their menu was positively mouth-watering. Who wouldn’t love to sit down to this menu??:

Course One:

Traditional Hushpuppy Amuse with Spicy Cajun Remoulade

Course Two:

She Crab Soup with Red Pepper Oil and Beet Micro Greens

Course Three:

Shrimp and Smoked Gouda Grits Cake with Chorizo Gravy and Truffled Frisee Salad

Course Four:

Braised Short Ribs served on a Bed of Spicy Collard Greens with Local Red Rice

Course Five:

Sweet Confections from Sugar Bakeshop

Looks like everyone had a great time, no?

Sugar Bakeshop really outdid themselves on this delightful miniature dessert display, its design a-la-amy atlas!

And finally, for the hours of dancing to local band Plane Jane- flip flops for their guests. These really are a completely cute AND practical wedding detail- these were snatched up in a hot minute once Plane Jane started kicking it up!

Ahh… another wonderful couple, another beautiful wedding. Thank you to everyone for helping us pull all of our planning together on Saturday!

And Kirsten and Paul, we wish you the best. WED is honored to have been a part of your big day!

Gandy

Oh, Wallis and Nick. I don’t think WED has ever seem a family more unconditionally supportive and excited about a wedding as Miss Wallis’ was about her GORGEOUS October 24th wedding weekend. The twelve bridesmaids and fourteen bridesmaids made complete sense once we really got to know this incredible bride. No one was a stranger to Wallis and her family, too! It was a wonderful thing to have a bride treat everyone- from our staff to her family to the band members, bus drivers, bartenders and bridesmaids- with dignity and respect.

She’s a true Southern lady and Wallis, we love you and your family to death! We are THRILLED you are married to the love of your life!

Leigh Webber’s photos to come. but here is a sneak peak of some photos our staff was about to capture. Enjoy!!

"Simplicity!"

“Simplicity, simplicity, simplicity!”

-Henry David Thoreau, Walden

The English-major in me loves to come back to these words from one of my favorite books when I’m thinking about wedding design. Isn’t it true that often times simpler is better?

We blogged about Storm and Annie and I thought you might like to see a few more design details from their wedding…

Storm and Annie

Sunday, October 18th, 2009

Ahhh… Storm and Annie. The whole WED team was I think a little in love with Storm and Annie! They met working as part of a crew on a large sailboat and were both so wonderfully carefree and cool. And man, did they ever love each other.

You can see it in these photos… what was really important to this couple was their love and marriage vows to each other. So romantic.

These beautiful photos by Leigh Webber really do capture the blissful emotions of the day!

Besides love, it’s not a wedding without louboutins

Is this a gorgeous neckline to a wedding dress or what?

Dress was by Nicole Miller

The blushing bride

With her sweet father…

Does it get more romantic than this???? Lowndes Grove, we love you!

Guests tossed petals in celebration of the new husband and wife

They say there’s a calmness about true love. I believe it!

“I do!!”

And then there was the party…

Annie and Storm, WED wishes you safe travels and new adventures!

Vino, please

Wednesday, October 14th, 2009

Wouldn’t we all love to head to the south of France this time of year… take a break from the daily grind and escape to the vineyards of Provence and sip a glass of vino?

WED was given a high task to create this vineyard vibe for our 10-10 wedding at the nearly equally picaresque Lowndes Grove Plantation. The bride was STUNNING and her relaxed, easy-going and fun-loving attitude was the cherry on top of our efforts to give her 165 guests a evening amongst the wine valleys of France…

Enjoy these photos that WED took of the evening… hopefully “official” photos from Jim Gund to come soon!

It’s a rainy day today… perfect for getting much-needed paperwork finished and, of course, perusing the blogosphere in search of fresh inspiration!

And a special thanks again to Completely Unveiled Blog (Weddings Unveiled Magazine’s blog) for giving our little blog a shout out this week! How’s that for some props for some props!

I especially love these beautiful bouquets from their latest issue. Thank you Weddings Unveiled for giving me a little somethin’ somethin’ to be excited about on a washout Monday…

(flowers by Amy Osaba- gorgeous!)

Midnight Blue and Peacock Feathers

Sunday, October 4th, 2009

Our September 26th couple have enviable lives… they’re both physicians in Charlotte with exciting careers, have adorable and loving families and friends, and of course- are beautiful people inside and out. And they just loved each other so beautifully throughout the whole wedding process! Kris is perhaps THE most ridiculously laid-back brides and Jonathan was completely involved in the wedding planning process. Get ready to be jealous, girls– he even surprised Kris with a pair of midnight blue Christian Louboutins to wear with her wedding dress. Love it.

Their wedding at Pepper Plantation was all about taking the natural, Ralph Lauren-style barn vibe and merge it with their uber-modern tastes. Peacock feathers and midnight blue served as inspiration.

Leigh Webber was on hand to capture the evenings moments and, in true Leigh fashion, had the edited photos to us just a few days after the event (LOVE you, Leigh!!) so we could post them here:

(make sure to peek at the shoes!)

Kris’ dress was b-e-a-utiful. And her bouquet featured a peacock feather at the clutch… Leigh Webber told me peacock feathers are a sign of good fortune in several Asian countries. Perhaps that is what held off the rain for us??

Velvet Salon was on hand all day to do the girls hair and make up. It was the first time we have had our spring street neighbors out to work with us and everyone was beyond thrilled with their do’s!

The ceremony was on the lawn between the Pavilion and the lake. An arbor covered with dendrobium orchids was all that setting needed…

First dance was to 311′s “Love Song.” Yes, I was crying!

I am a little obsessed with this color of midnight blue linen from Creative Coverings:

That same blue tone was first used in the invitations (designed by Studio R) and the green from that graphic band was carried into the seat cushions rented from Snyder. The peacock feathers were also introduced here, sent to each guest in their invites as a little sneak peak of what was to come…

I love how Leigh Webber saved these photos here… “Mob1″ and “Mob2.” They certainly got their dance on and I loved it!

Oh, Jonathan and Kris– we LOVED working with you and wish you the best!

Another gorgeous couple… thank you!!
