Eimile and Drue

Wednesday, May 27th, 2009

Joyful. Utterly, blissfully joyful… that’s how I would describe our bride and groom from this past weekend.

Eimile and Drue met when they both attended Dartmouth and traveled the world over before settling into our city. With Eimile  busy in medical school here, it only made sense to bring in their family and friends from around the globe to experience all they loved about the lowcountry.

Gracious… that’s exactly how I would describe the family’s attitude towards their guests. It all began with a detailed packet of info and a “wine and cheese” snack- featuring what else but southern pimiento cheese!

Drue’s family hosted the rehearsal dinner at Alhambra Hall. With sweet tea vodka drinks-a-plenty and a gorgeous Charleston sunset, every person knew this weekend was going to be an unforgettable one!

(the bride’s favorite red velvet cupcakes from Village Bakery, and a sweet treat for her brother on his birthday!)

There was no question where the ceremony and reception would be held: the ever stunning Lowndes Grove Plantation:

The ceremony was on the front lawn facing the water. I love Eimile’s musical selections… she even had her string quartet play an instrumental version of Led Zepplin’s “Stairway to Heaven” as she and her father walked down the aisle. It brought tears to my eyes!

Guests were greeted to cocktail hour with a champagne and peach bellini:

An evening of dinner and dancing (LOTS of dancing) followed… the dinner tent was more subdued and featured HUGE crystal chandeliers, while the lounge and bar tents were all about the BRIGHT colors… we loved that Eimile wasn’t scared of a little color!

(gorgeous flowers by H.B. Stems of Beaufort)

(we draped the lounge tents in pure coral, and so as a contrast we found these fantastic little lamps from IKEA- gotta love the new Charlotte location!)

And for those weary, danced-out feet, a bookcase filled with flip flops. Even the men were snapping these up!

Emilie and Drue- it was truly a pleasure. We wish you the best in your new marriage… and happy honeymooning, too!!

New Neutrals

Sunday, May 24th, 2009

I love that wedding design has become something more like interior design… gone are “rules” of what you should and shouldn’t do! Savvy brides and grooms are now seeking to create spaces at their weddings that are as interesting and dynamic as the rooms of their homes.

Erin and Chris are hip entrepreneurs (look for their new clothing boutique next to Caviar and Bananas on Wentworth to open later this summer!!) and wanted their wedding to feel casual and laid back without sacrificing in style. We brought in natural elements in the florals and paired them with a modern tone of gunmetal grey. Here’s what happened at the William Aiken House on an absolutely beautiful May evening…

The bride carried of bouquet of calla lilies, ranunculus and astilbe and had a photo of her groom attached to the stems. The bridesmaids gray dresses were given freshness with bouquets of pods, mums, and fresh honeysuckle vine…

Natural colored barstools kept the lounge natural and gave additional seating for guests…

Burlap covered ottomans and live moss lined each side…

The William Aiken is filled with rich, saturated tones (such as this bright yellow from the home’s exterior!) so Erin wanted us to pull in shots of color throughout. We hung pink glass lanterns in the trees and added purple double tulips to the centerpieces on the portico…

The beautiful “blue room” downstairs served the perfect cake room… and the cake was placed right on the antique table already in the space…

The children ran through the boxwood maze wile the grownups danced the night away in the tent…

Happy honeymooning, Erin and Chris!

UPDATE: Check out these gorgeous photos from their photographer, Watson Studios out of Knoxville, TN!!

Waterfront Rehearsal

Sunday, May 10th, 2009

Beaufort’s Waterfront Park Pavilion served as a perfect location for our preppy pink, orange, and lime green-themed rehearsal dinner.

The bride and groom wanted to decor to be whimsical, casual, and fun… and splashed with a healthy dose of Clemson Orange!

The grooms cake featured the groom’s beloved team…

We used boldly-striped orange and hot pink linens… bright white glass vases housed tangerines and manzanita branches…

Other tables hosted centerpieces of layered brussel sprouts, goldfish (!), and clementines…

Boxwood spheres provided a “pop” of freshness to the entrance pieces…

The bride had monogrammed runners to highlight the bars…

You just can’t beat these views… a perfect beginning to a perfect wedding weekend.

Pretty in Pink

Sunday, May 10th, 2009

Pink, pink, and more pink. I love the Mae West saying, “Too much of a good thing is wonderful.”

This April 2009 wedding at the Anchorage House in Beaufort, SC proved the perfect venue to suit this bride’s need for all things pink. From the draping to the linens, the flowers and wedding koozies (monogrammed, of course!) at the bar… pink details shown throughout.

Black stir sticks were inserted into the pink lemonade martinis for a graphic pop

Mercury glass votives and romantic flower spheres dressed up one of the many beautiful mantles in the house

Zebra-print pillows gave us a subtle surprise factor

The lovely cake was a showstopper and was treated as such- it was given its own room in the house!

The porch proved perfect for thr bars- and what a natural backdrop for these!

Pink draping and crystal chandeliers created romance in the lounge tent, but the clean lines of the drum shades a bit of restraint

It’s all about the details…

All our best wishes to the bride and groom!

Allison and Matthew

Sunday, May 10th, 2009

There’s a little place outside of Charleston that is like heaven on earth… this place is Kiawah Island.

For those who have been, you know just what I mean. The natural beauty of the island is almost hard to believe and this bride and groom were all about showing off nature at its finest.

A trolley transported Allison’s and Matthew’s wedding parties from their rooms at The Sanctuary to the ceremony at the lovely Holy Spirit Catholic Church:

Guests were greeted with silver juleps (these doubled as favors at the end of the evening!):

Then picked up their escort cards underneath this lovely “live oak”

Then cocktailed on the Osprey Point patio overlooking their gorgeous grounds:

PDA Lighting supplied the uplit backdrop for the band, which was focal for every table in the room:

Centerpieces in pale yellows, creams, and greens were oh-so-garden-chic:

This wedding was all about the cakes! I couldn’t decide which one I loved the most- the Notre Dame dome grooms cake, the tiered brides cake on a custom stand or the cupcake and truffle tower…

And this fabric is my latest obsession- I would love this tray in my own house!

Congrats to Allison and Matthew, we absolutely loved working with you and your families. And, of course, thank you for giving us yet another excuse to head out to Kiawah!
